Today, let’s celebrate the love that God has for us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and the full and happy life that God created all of us to have, in union with Himself. God wants to have a personal relationship with each of us, and he has offered us a relationship, a promise of his love, a covenant by means of His Son, Jesus Christ. God the Father wants us to fall in love with Jesus so that we will follow Him and thus be led as Jesus did by His Holy Spirit.

Have you ever reflected on what you truly believe about Jesus, who He is, what He did, and what He is doing now? Two weeks ago our second grade CCD students received their First Holy Communion. What a wonderful awe filled moment when they received the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist for the first time. Spend some time this week to refer back to your preparation and reception of the Sacraments of Initiation that you received; that is your Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation. Do you remember (maybe not your Baptism) how joyful you were and how close to the Lord you felt?

The word believe comes from a German word that means to fall in love. If we truly believe that Jesus is our Lord and Savior and that he came into the world so that we would not die but have eternal life in Heaven with him, then we should understand how close Jesus is to us, and we in turn, should make Jesus a prominent person living in the center of our lives. We are not left alone to accomplish this. Jesus gives us the strength to accomplish this and helps us to surrender ourselves to the Father and to the Holy Spirit as He did, with complete obedience and trust. Jesus came into the world to offer us a new life and he is our model for accepting the Spirit. Jesus surrendered to the Spirit during His baptism in the Jordan and after Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to the Father he sent the Holy Spirit to His disciples, whom he had promised, to bring new life to each of His followers if we truly believe.
