This Friday evening, December 1st, we will be holding our annual CHRISTMAS POPS CONCERT. The selection of music will include Classical selections, Christmas hymns and Carols. The first three pieces of music come from the Elizabethan era and are hymns about the life of the Blessed Mother and the Birth of our Savior. I have listened to each piece and was very moved by the performance. Our other selections follow religious and secular carols and hymns. About a decade ago I used to attend high school Christmas Concerts, which while enjoyable were presented as “Christmas” but were devoid of any songs referencing Jesus. I have always loved the hymn, O Little Town of Bethlehem, but even back then this type of music was deemed offensive. Presently the concerts are called “Winter Concerts,” and the word Christian or Christmas are off limits. Well, Marshfield needs a Church which will stand up and proudly proclaim it is proud of its relationship with the Prince of Peace, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and wants to promote this awesome relationship folks can have with their Creator and Redeemer. Come join us on December 1st and put Jesus front and center in your lives. And should someone in the area sneeze, please use the words “God bless you”, and not the abbreviated “bless you!” It irks me that folks who want to avoid offending people by using Jesus’ name, have no problem offending me when they curse or blaspheme by taking Jesus’ name in vein. I am very serious about being careful of cooperating in a culture where we want to avoid offending anyone by using the name of Jesus. I would like you to consider this, if you never stick up for your friend or best friend, do you really have a right to ask them to go out of there way to help you. Absolutely not. If we horde the relationship we have with Jesus and keep it to ourselves without regard to sharing it with others, how can we expect Him to be alive on our lives. Scripture recounts Jesus telling the disciples to go out into the world and spread the Good News.
If we want His abundant blessings we have to stand ready to be witness as to who He is and what He stands for.
This might seem to be somewhat outside folks comfort zones, but again scripture informs us of the divine mandate to pick up your cross and follow Him. So please use Jesus’ name and use often!
I want to thank everyone who has been so kind to me as I work to get rid of this pesky cold. I have had so many folks bring soup, bread, and popsicles to help me get better. One anonymous person even sent me a lovely flower pot with flowers and a peace plant. You have no idea how much this means to me and how much it has touched my heart. I must admit that I have never had a cold this long, and I hope to be better for this weekend’s Masses. Actually I know this is going to happen, as I just received a big pot of chicken soup from Doctor Joe McDonald; if that don’t cure me, nothing will!
The Hollywood folk are gone, though they may be back in December for a few days, but we have received the rental checks. The gross rental for the 2 1/2 weeks was $37,500.00. How are them apples! I will consult the Finance Council on this new wealth and how we are to allocate it…so far a portion is being directed to the bathroom project and the 3 new doors.
My next Catholic TV Mass is on Friday December 22nd at 9:30am. If you want to come please call the parish office.
I am holding a Christmas get together for all our volunteers at the Daniel Webster House on Wed. 12/20/17 please rsvp, and if you didn’t get your invitation, call the office and let us know you will be attending. Lastly, just a heads up that the parish office will be closed during the Christmas Vacation.
