When you’re smiling, when you’re smiling, the whole world smiles with you!
A smile personifies the joy that faith brings. Christmas Joy is inspired by our encounter with a person, a person that embodies the very essence of Love itself. Christmas is a time to open our hearts to the joy of our faith. The real joy of Christmas as announced by an angel to the shepherds on that first Christmas night: “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:1011). The joy of faith revives us and helps us to trust again, even in times of great distress. We are consoled by Christ in direct proportion to how much we allow his presence in our lives. If we do not allow for Christ to console us then as Pope Francis tweeted this week, ‘We brew up “resentment broth.” We compete with Jonah, “the Nobel laureate of whining.” Looking like “pessimism incarnate”.’ Wow! We don’t want to be like that! We want to be people that see the glass half full, that view problems not as obstacles but as opportunities, and not act as if we would only be happy if one a million conditions were met. We all want to be joy filled people and smile just like the children we see around us today. Choose to smile! We have a lot to be happy about! Jesus Christ is born and can be reborn in our hearts every moment of our day if we allow him room. Happy Birthday Jesus! A very Merry Christmas to you and yours!
