This week, I want to take a step back, and give you the whole view of what our year is looking like for Mission and for upcoming mission trips! I am excited for another year of great service opportunities for middle school and high school teens, as well as adults! (Yes, we are having more and more adults join in!). Our “newest” and recurring service site is Carolina Hill. Our next date is on Saturday, January 13th from 10am (meet in the parish hall) to 1pm. We will be serving lunch, offering a craft for the children and parents, and then conclude by playing with the children. This is a great opportunity for teens and adults of all ages! Just come to our meeting next Monday, January 8th at 6pm in the Parish Hall. I find this group to be personally really exciting. We have some enthusiastic teens bringing new ideas every meeting, and adults who want to join in on serving families in need of a few hours of company. This is a community gathering of neighbor helping neighbor, right here in the Marshfield community.

The one critique I have always heard about the mission program is: “Why aren’t we doing local service?” That’s a great question! This group is the answer; I hope you can join us this month.

As far as mission trips for sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school, (as well as for adults), we are excited to be taking part in the March for Life on January 24th-27th. We will be heading to Washington D.C. with the Archdiocese of Boston, and I ask for your prayers during this week. We have many first time missionaries and this is a great opportunity to learn about human dignity and life, from conception to natural death.

We also have a new opportunity for adults who are interested in serving the state of Texas after hurricane Harvey. In late February we will be traveling down to Houston to assist in the rebuilding of homes in the area. We are still looking for interested adults to come forward, please ask Father Carmichael or myself for more information. Please join us!

Next, we have our 4th annual (and many think our best) mission trip in April; Mission to Long Branch, NJ. This trip will take place during the third week of April, April School Vacation.

Looking further ahead, we have at least one mission opportunity this summer: we will be traveling back to CHICAGO for our 3rd year in a row (!!!) to work with the Br. David Darst Center. This trip last summer was very successful, and we hope to have more teens be a part of this once in a lifetime mission experience. Interest for this trip will be HIGH, and spots will be limited, let us know sooner rather than later if you are interested. ☺

Mission 2018 is looking bigger and better than ever. The real question is: will you join us?

From Marshfield and Carolina Hill, all the way to Chicago, Houston and back, we hope you can join us in our journey. I appreciate your support in making these opportunities possible, please know you are changing lives, and I truly mean that.
