“The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.” Psalm.126
Jesus loves us so much that he freely and obediently gave himself up into the hands of His Father. In the Gospel of John, Jesus says, “I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me, as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.” Jesus then continues, “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.” Jesus is our Good Shepherd; he leads us from dangers into safe pastures. Jesus is the supreme Shepherd over the Church who gives His disciples a share in his saving mission. Jesus is so committed to the welfare and true happiness of each one of us that he freely died for us.
St. Athanasius says that Jesus Christ committed his spirit to the Father with all of His faithful, who through Him, would obtain salvation; since the head, with the members, form one single body. Therefore, with deep gratitude and faith we prepare for Holy Week. Let us thank the Lord for allowing us this time together; as we look forward to accompanying him in his suffering on way of the cross, and for giving us the opportunity to console Him by committing ourselves just like He did, and surrendering everything obediently to the Father.
“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit;”
We can do this right now by serving the Lord and our neighbor as a gift. Let God lead you, as the Polish poet Cyprian Norwid expressed, “Not with the Cross of the Savior behind you but with your own cross behind the Savior.” God is so pleased when we offer ourselves to serve Him and our neighbor in this way, that our souls are transformed and become transparent, thus, all God sees, is His Son through us. Join us in ministry, join us in mission, join us in prayer; Join us in making this the best lent ever!
