What has God shared with you today? Has he helped you with a decision or helped lead you in the right direction, to the right people, to do the right thing? You may be saying to yourself right now; how am I supposed to know if it is God’s voice that is talking to me since there is so much going on in my head; with everything I need to do and everything I want to do! The Lord speaks to each of us regardless of our intelligence, and does not require special abilities or being better educated. All that is needed is the ability to listen, to let go of our rigidness to encounter, to let ourselves go; literally. The Lord speaks to us in many different ways, in many different places, and at different times of the day. Prayer enables us to know God’s language, to understand inspirations and to calm our anxieties. In conclusion of our reflection on Pope Francis Apostolic Exhortation on the universal call to holiness, the Pope encourages all of us, to pray for the gift of discernment; a gift of the Holy Spirit that allows us to hear God’s voice and understand what God would like for us to do. Since discernment is a grace, it allows us to understand the meaning and real purpose of our lives, and to better understand the mission given to us. You may ask: Why is this important? I’m comfortable with the way things are and I don’t want to change the way I do things.
The Christian life is a battle that is not just waged against worldly pleasures or just struggling with vice and weakness, but a constant struggle against the devil.
The pope exhorts each of us to understand that the devil is a person and not a myth, a symbol, idea or figure of speech. He is a very real personal being who wants only to destroy us, our families and beyond. In order to counter the evil one, we must continue to grow in love and progress in our spiritual life with ‘faith-filled prayer, meditation on the word of God, the celebration of the Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, sacramental Reconciliation, works of charity, communal life and missionary outreach.’ The Holy Spirit offers us the path to holiness, our source of joy and peace, to help us, “Stay Awake” to “keep our lamps lit” to be attentive, and to listen! When we pray to the Holy Spirit for the gift of discernment a whole world of new opportunities present themselves for God to shine his light into our lives so that we may glorify Him with it! “Rejoice and Be Glad!”
