The St. Ann by the Sea 2018 Vacation Bible School is quickly approaching and is titled, “Surfing through the Scriptures.” The virtues of Faith, Hope, and Love will be the bible schools central theme. The three day Bible school will be held Tuesday, July 17th through Thursday, July 19th from 9am to 11:30am each morning in the parish hall. Since Marshfield waters was the resting place recently of hundreds of Right Whales, it seemed only appropriate to surf through the Old Testaments life story of the reluctant prophet Jonah.
Jonah’s journey in faith involved a tussle with a gigantic whale as it highlights the tremendous patience and tender mercy of God.
The children will surf through the Gospels of the New Testament as they find, Jesus walking on water and calming the sea to save the apostles during fierce storms. Each day the children will learn ways to better understand Scripture, their relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and about the patron saints for sailors, surfers and mariners. We will explore the many ways that these saints expressed their faith in God, and their love and charity for others. Prayer, singing, crafts, outdoor activities, and special guests will fill the mornings each day. Each of the school day activities will feature a special guest, such as a presentation from professional surfers who will instruct the children on the ABC’s of Surfing. Our own Town of Marshfield’s Harbormaster will present to the children the many safe ways to have fun in the water this summer. We as a parish family are so blessed to have so many volunteers of all ages to help facilitate the Bible School each year. Please keep us in your prayers as we prepare for this year’s bible school held in just a few short weeks. I encourage each of you to consider sending your children or grandchildren to the bible school or to share the event with your neighbors. In this way we can work together and bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to the children in our community this summer.
