So that all might rejoice in the congregation, the pastor is clothed in a rose or pink vestment. Take as many pictures as you like. Alongside the pink vestment we will light the third and pink candle. This also reminds us that we have just marked the beginning of the halfway point to Christmas.
This weekend we celebrate the 3rd Week of Advent also known as Gaudete Sunday, the entrance antiphon setting the theme of rejoicing.
On Monday I will be at Catholic TV Studios pre-taping this coming Friday’s daily Mass. Everyone is always welcome to join us, we leave at 7:15am and return around noontime. If you’d like to join us, just show up in your car in the church parking lot by 7:15am and signal me when I exit the rectory. I would love to have you join us.
This coming Wednesday night we will have an ADVENT FAMILY PENANCE SERVICE. The night will feature Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Incensing of the Creche, Music and Scripture readings. I hope to include another priest, should you want to seek full anonymity! I hope you will join us on this night and take on the penitential work of the Church.
We have placed CHRISTMAS FLOWER ENVELOPES out and ask you to consider making an offering in a loved one’s name. As of last weekend we raised $1400.00 which is a thousand dollars short of our Christmas Flower budget. This year we are ordering red, blue, white and pink poinsettias. The large blue poinsettias are twice as expensive as the other colors, but they will really enhance our Christmas Liturgies. Please help us fund the church flowers.
I want to thank the Knights of Columbus, who have done a great deal of work to decorate the exterior of the property. The Creche we have is very difficult and time-consuming to install as was the lobster trap tree (though I suspect that was fun to put up!). We have a few more surprises we will be putting up this week.
On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day we take up one collection for the Clergy Health and Retirement Fund. I recently visited Regina Cleri, our retirement home, where my dad and the Singing Grand Pops, performed their show. What a fun time, and was great to see the dignity afforded these holy men because of your regular support of this fund. May God Bless you, our retired priests!
