For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) God sent his only Son to earth to save us, because he loves us! Being Christian means that we have had an encounter with an event, a person. God has made himself visible in Jesus Christ; Love and Truth itself.

Pope Benedict states that,

“contact with the visible manifestations of God’s Love (Jesus) can awaken within us a feeling of joy born (Christmas) of the experience of being loved. Acknowledgement of the living God is one path toward love, and the “yes” of our will to His Will unites our intellect, will and sentiments in the all -embracing act of love.”

God himself is more present to us than we are to ourselves. God’s presence increases in us and we are filled with joy, when we surrender all to God. Every time we chose to surrender to God, “there shines forth a tiny light that has its source in the great central light that is the grace of God.” (A. Speyer) Everything we surrender will come to us under the guidance of grace and we must have confidence, because the grace that we seek has sought us first. Many of us feel that our state in life has been blessed by God, while others feel that their state of life has been inflicted upon them. A beautiful gift this Christmas season to give the infant Savior would be for all of us to remain faithful to the commandments and precepts of our faith regardless if we feel afflicted by the hurts and wrongs delivered upon us by others. What great Christian maturity to be able to humble ourselves before the infant Jesus, while trodding life’s path carrying the cross he bears alongside us. This week may we be mindful of those who feel inflicted with the pain of loneliness due to the loss of a loved one, or are in a circumstance where they feel abandoned. Let us be mindful, and open our hearts, as we celebrate the birth of Christ to let ourselves to be emboldened again to fidelity of our call to love one another, with the knowledge that with this Love we are never alone. Merry Christmas to All!
