We have begun the fall term with the Parish Pastoral Council and the Finance Council.

This weekend’s Second Collection is for Peter’s Pence and Catholic University of America. Peter’s Pence, as all old timers know, is the Holy Father’s Collection and helps support the various charitable causes for which the Holy Father thus designates. Many times, portions of the funds go for humanitarian relief and help with the homeless. Please be as generous as you able. Thanks.

I recently received word that Phase VIII of the Pastoral Plan, will commence June 1st, 2020, and will include Parishes in the following towns:  Scituate, Bridgewater, St. Adelaide and St Ann in Peabody, St Benedict in Somerville, St Anthony and St. Francis in Cambridge, St Joseph’s in the West End of Boston, Medway and Millis, Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted in Waltham, St. Bridget in Maynard and the two Sudbury Parishes.

We have begun the fall term with the Parish Pastoral Council and the Finance Council. I will have met with the Finance Council this weekend, and then the Pastoral Council a week from this Tuesday. A word of thanks to those council members who are departing  from the Parish Council. I have been blessed over the years with the wise council of many of you and for that I thank God. I am looking ahead to an active year with both of the councils. Please keep them in your prayers.

Last week I attended the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of the Monastery of the Holy Rosary in Summit New Jersey. It was great to celebrate along with the 20+ nuns, their Superior and the regional Episcopal Bishop. The Wednesday 10:00am Mass, held on the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels, was attended by about 150 people in a sweltering ninety-degree church. I realize that sometimes we can get sad reflecting on a declining church attendance in Christian denominations, but this was a positive sign, as the majority of the nuns were under thirty years of age! They are the most joyful bunch. I was with them this past June for the dedication of the expanded new wing of the monastery. Over the years our parish has made donations for the construction of this wing, and for that they are most grateful. This group of nuns regularly pray for us, and I often send them individual names of folks being operated on, asking them to pray for successful surgeries, etc. They are batting 100 so far, and are a rich resource for our parish.

This month we have several events coming up, including the Knights of Columbus Special Needs Halloween Party, our parish’s Trunk or Treat! and the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Next weekend we welcome the Very Reverend Robert Connors, who will be the celebrant of the Sunday 11:30am Mass. Fr. Connor is the acting Regional Episcopal Vicar for the South Region. Let’s offer him our customary hospitality. See you next week. Peace.
