Cardinal O’Malley has reinstituted the obligation to get to Mass on Sundays. We have posted a nice “Welcome back” video message from him, on our website,  www.stanns.net. Please view it at your leisure. It has been great to see so many “regulars” returning to Mass, as well as our summer people.

Did you know that I grow a patch of peppermint right by the courtyard? I pick from it a few times a week for daily tea and to put in my pitcher of water. Not many people use peppermint in this way, but it’s a great herb for the gut. In late fall I take in packets of the leaves and freeze a few leaves in ice cubes. I’ll take the ice cubes and put them in my very hot tea. If you would like to take  some of my homegrown peppermint, please help yourself.

Last weekend we surveyed parishioners, with respect to the color scheme for the front entranceway of the church. This very unscientific poll had 75% of folks choosing the side I liked and the remainder the other area. I am happy to say, I blew it. I thought I was showing you two different shades of the color, and the contractor let me know the samples we looked at were the same, the darker shade was off to the side. Honestly though, I had a hard time telling that it was darker. Well, it ends up that we all got what we voted for – lol! The front siding is now painted, and the next step is to scrape the woodwork and paint it white. As the electricians are here this week, I hope to have the lighting installed and working. Hopefully it will give you a better idea of why I suggested this paint scheme.  They also moved the electrical service and meter to the opposite side of the handicap ramp by the corner of the building. This work was very, very costly but it addresses the problem of water deteriorating the system components, and means, more importantly, that down the road the next pastor will not have to address this situation on an emergency basis losing a weekend of electricity!

I am planning a party on Saturday night, July 17th, for members of the Knights of Columbus  and various other ministers who assisted us at the Drive-In Mass and the other Masses inside the Church. The Volunteer’s Night party will consist of dinner, drinks and live entertainment. Volunteers also include those who are Eucharistic Ministers, Parish and Finance Council members, those who teach or support religious education, counters, ushers, linens, gardeners, etc. Please call the parish and let us know if you can attend. The event will be held underneath a tent located on the parish courtyard. Please mark your calendars accordingly.

That same weekend we will be holding our Youth Mission Turkey Sandwich Fundraiser after the Saturday Vigil Mass and the Sunday morning Masses. This is a great event, as it allows folks to support our youth, while also having a nice sandwich for dinner rather than cooking in humid weather. We are allowing folks to preorder sandwiches. Lobster Rolls will be featured in August.

Next week we launch this year’s GRAND ANNUAL DRIVE and letters are going out in the mail. The funds will be used on the front entrance work to the Church, and significant repairs and renovations to the Parish hall. Your support is crucial to this work!
